Methodology

Where Topognosia's data comes from, what it shows and how often it is refreshed.

Where the data comes from

From open data published by public bodies and international organisations: business registries, the population census, maps, deed prices, seismic activity and the environment. Each source and its licence are listed on the "Sources" page.

What we show

How many businesses operate in each municipality and sector, how many open and how many close, how a municipality compares with the others, and what is around an address.

How often it is refreshed

The data is refreshed every month. Every page states the date of its data and when the next update is due.

Accuracy and limits

The figures pass quality checks before they are published. Where businesses are few, we show a range instead of an exact figure, to protect privacy.

The data describes the market; it is not a property valuation, a forecast or professional advice.

Reports and corrections

A registry is not always up to date: a business may be operating without having updated its entry, or may have closed without declaring it. If you spot an inaccuracy, you can suggest a correction; every suggestion is reviewed before the next update.
